SUMMARY:“Central Bank Digital Currencies: A Potential Threat to Freedom” with Norbert Michel
DESCRIPTION:AIER’s Bastiat Society program in Washington DC will host an in-person luncheon event with Norbert Michel\, vice president and director of the Cato Institute’s Center for Monetary and Financial Alternatives in Washington\, DC. \nThe IMF and governments around the world are advocating the transformation of their national currencies into central bank digital currencies or “CBDCs.” Governments favor CBDCs\, because it enhances their power over economic policy and their control over people’s money. Norbert Michel will discuss why CBDCs are incompatible with personal liberty and the prospect of CBCDs becoming a reality. Dr. Michel will also examine the advent of stable coins and the governmental rush to regulate them to the detriment of market freedom. \nEventbrite registration is required to attend\, register here. Admission fee is $16 (only $8 for full-time students). Light food and beverages will be provided.
